Rolex referentienummers begrijpen

Een volledig overzicht van hoe Rolex zijn horloges benoemt en nummert — en wat dit betekent voor de waarde.

Every Rolex has a unique reference number that tells you the model, material, bezel type, and dial variation. For example, the 16233 tells us it's a Datejust (162), in steel and gold (3), with a fluted bezel (3).

Understanding these numbers is crucial for collectors and buyers — it helps you verify authenticity, understand market value, and identify rare configurations that command premium prices.

Modern Rolex references use a 6-digit system (e.g., 126610LN for the current Submariner Date), while vintage models use 4-5 digits. The suffix letters indicate bezel and dial variations.

Investering

Waarom een vintage Datejust zijn waarde behoudt

Van een impulsieve aanmelding tot het dragen van een Datejust 36. Alex deelt zijn ervaring.

Alex had never entered a watch raffle before. He'd seen a few online but most felt untrustworthy. When he found WinThe.watch, the free entry and RandomDraws verification convinced him to give it a try.

"I signed up on a Wednesday night. Got the email on Friday saying I'd won. I genuinely thought it was spam," Alex recalls. "But then they called me, walked me through the verification, and three days later a Datejust 36 was on my wrist."

The Datejust has remained one of the most consistently valuable Rolex references of the past decades. Vintage pieces in good condition, particularly two-tone steel and gold models from the 1980s and 1990s, have shown strong appreciation — making them not only timeless to wear but a smart store of value.

Restauratie

In de werkplaats: het restaureren van een Datejust uit 1991

Een blik achter de schermen hoe wij vintage Rolex-horloges weer tot leven brengen.

When a 1991 Datejust arrives in our offices, the first step is always a full assessment. We check the movement, the case condition, the bracelet stretch, and most importantly — the authenticity of every component.

The Calibre 3135 movement is completely disassembled — over 200 individual parts cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, inspected under magnification, and reassembled by hand. Worn parts are replaced with genuine Rolex components.

The case is polished to remove surface scratches while preserving the original lines. The crystal is replaced if needed. Finally, the watch is pressure-tested, timing-regulated on a Witschi machine, and given a 48-hour power reserve test before it's certified ready.
